Waterproof gold anklets — the complete guide
A waterproof gold anklet is the one piece of jewelry you don't have to take off before the swim. Here's what makes an ankle bracelet truly waterproof, the gold finishes that hold up in salt water, and how to find the right size for your foot.
What makes a gold anklet waterproof
A waterproof anklet has to handle three things every day: salt water, sunscreen oils and fine sand. The pieces that survive use either gold-filled brass (a thick layer of real gold bonded to the base, usually 1/20 by weight) or PVD-coated stainless steel, where the gold is fused to the metal under vacuum at very high temperature. Both finishes don't tarnish, don't peel and don't turn your skin green — unlike standard gold-plated jewelry, which wears through in weeks at the beach.
Salt-water safe
PVD gold and gold-filled finishes resist corrosion in the sea.
Sun & sunscreen
No discoloration from SPF, mineral oils or saltwater pools.
Tarnish-free
Built to keep the gold tone for years of beach days.
How to size a waterproof anklet
Measure around the narrowest part of your ankle with a soft tape and add 1–2 cm for the perfect drape. Most women fit a 24–26 cm anklet; for a looser look at the beach add another centimeter. Athenia anklets all come with an adjustable extension chain so you can dial in the fit between swims.
Care after the beach
Even waterproof jewelry lasts longer with a quick freshwater rinse after the sea, and a soft microfiber dry. Avoid chlorinated hot tubs and harsh cleaners — those attack the metal underneath any finish.
